06/30/00 - Fome-Cor®, Backer Board for Factory-Built Homes Alcan Composites USA is pleased to announce that it now is offering two foam board products for the factory-built construction of manufactured housing and modular homes, including: · Fome-Cor® Weather-Resistive Board, an accordion-folded foam-filled housewrap and sheathing board, and · New Backer Board, a foam-filled sheet stock designed to provide a rigid surface for the installation of siding. Fome-Cor Board. Fome-Cor board consists of ¼-inch of extruded polystyrene foam bonded between two layers of tough linerboard - one mottled white and one kraft - in 7.5-foot and 8-foot heights. The mottled white liner provides a clean, attractive appearance in multi-section homes that may be displayed with open ends to potential homebuyers. Fome-Cor board’s unique accordion-folded design allows for a continuous “no-seam” wrap of the factory-built home, providing premium protection against air leakage and moisture migration, as well as sound-dampening benefits. This continuous design also offers fast, easy installation. Additionally, Fome-Cor board has been redesigned with 32-inch and 24-inch folding patterns to span, respectively, 16-inch and 24-inch studs or trusses. These folding patterns ensure that the product lies flat and provides a smooth, rigid surface for the installation of siding. Fome-Cor board is unique in that it may be installed as a sheathing board over open-stud construction and as a housewrap over open studs or plywood. Fome-Cor board is the only housewrap to offer the sound-dampening, 24-hour water-resistive rating (ASTM D-779), as well as an insulating R-value of 1 and a water vapor breathability rating above 5 perms. Backer Board. Backer Board consists of ¼-inch of extruded polystyrene bonded between two layers of tough kraft liner board. It is produced in 4-foot by 8-foot and 4-foot by 7.5-foot sheets. Lightweight-yet-rigid Backer Board provides a smooth surface for the application of siding. It also offers a water vapor breathability rating above 5 perms and sound-dampening benefits, as well as an R-value of 1.
